Logging Activity to Multiple Contacts

Is it possible to log an activity to multiple contacts at once.

For example, if I send a postcard to 100 people and I want to note that in each contact's activity history, how could I do this without having to open and write to 100 contacts?

I am using the Group version of salesforce.

Re: Logging Activity to Multiple Contacts

If you're talking about a single Activity record, you can do it if the Activity is an Event (events can have multiple Invitees).  But if you're using a Task, then you will have to create a seperate Task for each Contact.

But it sounds to me like you probably don't need to do either of these.  You can probably just create a Campaign, and add your Contacts to it.  Each Contact will then have a "Postcard Campaign"entry in thier Campaign History.  As an added bonus you can track things like Response Rate, Opportunities Genterated, etc...

Re: Logging Activity to Multiple Contacts

I have the Group version of SF. It does not seem to include the campaign function.

I tried the multiple invitees for an event approach, but I'm struggling to make it work for my specific situation.

When I try to add multiple contacts to an event, I would like to be able to select many contacts at once, instead of adding them one at a time. Ideally, I would like to select contacts with a filter, say, "custom field" equals "Postcard".

Other than adding contacts one at a time to an event, is there a way to create events or tasks and assign them to many contacts at once?

Re: Logging Activity to Multiple Contacts

Wooops, sorry I forgot that Campaigns were only in EE, UE, and DE.

With GE you might really be in a bind.  I think there are some free Mass Assign/Update Task apps available on the AppExchange, but I'm not sure if they support GE.  You might wanna check there if you haven't already.

Re: Logging Activity to Multiple Contacts

adding invitees does not attach the contacts to the event. the event does not show up in the contacts activity list. so i assume they will not show up on a report either.

but it is not a link, so this work around doesn't meet my needs, at least.

this is a known issue with Salesforce and seems to be constant

Re: Logging Activity to Multiple Contacts

honestly there is no good workaround with this. custom objects won't link with calendars like events do. this maybe the biggest hole in SFDC's abiility to track customer relations, its supposed purpose.
