Ecommerce Integration with Salesforce (shopping cart?)

I'm pretty new to Salesforce but it seems to me that it should be possible to connect an eCommerce/shopping cart portal to it.  For example, it would be great if I could give my customers a way to pick out their products and place their orders themselves (with the product selection and pricing drawing from SF and the purchase information going into an Opportunity record). 

Strangely, I've searched and searched and have found almost no mention of integrating SF and eCommerce or shopping carts other than job posts where people are looking for somebody to build a solution from scratch.  Are there really no AppExchange apps or other services that can provide eCommerce or shopping cart functionality?  If Cevent and Regonline can give people a way to login and purchase event registrations with SF as the backend, why am I not finding something similar in which the products can be more diverse than event passes?  I know I must be missing something obvious because nobody seems to be talking about this, so I would greatly appreciate it if someone can point me in the right direction.

About a year ago I had the same experience.  I searched for eCommerce solutions on the Appexchange and found one partner.  Later they pull their app.  

We recently went through an ecommerce integration and we used EDL Consulting to help us set up the portal.  They are very good and they worked very quickly to get us a store front on the web that is integrated with Salesforce.
