Customer portal access to Opportunities

Hello all:

 

Can someone clarify for me whether Customer Portal Standard users can access Opportunities? Based on what I see in their profile, the answer is no. I have no option to enable access to Opportunities for those users.

 

In fact they don't really need access to Opportunities, they just need access to a custom object that's been made a detail to Opportunity's master. Now, I can break that relationship and do things differently, I just want to make sure I can't grant my portal users even a very limited access to Opportunity (just one field).

For specific Opportunity fields no you cannot expose them to your Portal Users as the Object itself cannot be exposed. However, you can expose formula fields in your custom object that call information from the Opportunity to your Portal Users, or as you mentioned via Apex and Visualforce.
