Anyone using Salesforce.com for HR management?

I started using Salesforce.com to keep track of my customers.  I started thinking it might be a good tool to use to manage my ~50 employees.

Anyone using it for this function?

I'd probably get a new single user account for this since the custom fields would be different than that of my customers.

Thoughts on this?

Re: Anyone using Salesforce.com for HR management?

We are a small estate planning law firm with about 70 employees and we built our own Employee application using the native SF functionality.  Previously we used MS Access so I transferred what we liked from there, moved the data over, then built more interesting fuctions on top of that (that SF can do that Access could not do).

It holds all their basic info (name, address, phone, spouse, dates of hire/term, etc), as well as Related Lists for Employees Supervised, Positions, and the most-used section, the PTO program.  The old paper-based system required employees to print off the form and fill in to request time off, then turn it into their supervisor to sign off, and then turn in to the Acctg dept to process (in an Excel sheet).  Now all of that is handled with a related list on their Employee record, and Approval Processing on the related list.

It's basic, but handles the major requirements we needed for HR and tasks us when someone is hired or fired.  You may consider doing this or just downloading the basic app from the AppExchange (I did at first, then scrapped it to build my own).

Re: Anyone using Salesforce.com for HR management?

I appreciate the replies, but looks like for my needs Salesforce won't do the trick, at a resonable cost anyway.

I have about 50 employees, and I'd need them to be ESS (employee self-serve), meaning they'd be able to login to manage their profiles.

Unless I'm mistaken, this would cost me $65/month PER employee with Salesforce.

I'm most likely going to use iemployee, they have a nice setup and made for HR.  There's a setup fee of $500, then it's $2.50 per employee per month.

I haven't signed up with iemployee just yet, so if I'm missing something let me know!  :smileyhappy:

I think for just having a portal for your employees to manage their profiles etc I think iEmployee is a good move. Jobscience does not require you to have a full CRM License per user, instead we issue you a platform license which is much less than the $65/mo. However we offer a full ATS and it sounds like you do not need that. Best of luck!

Re: Anyone using Salesforce.com for HR management?

oh - missed the part where you don't have enough users for everyone in your org?  sometimes i forget that we're different in that regard.  all of our employees use salesforce daily, so adding apps for different office things is a way to leverage what we're already paying for.
