Partner Account and Contact

How can I not display the partner's own contact record and partner account information yet still display the partner's contacts?  the portal i'm working on will not use Accounts, just contacts.

Noone (even SFDC) seems to be able to tell me how to keep one partner from seeing another partner's contact record when they are related to the same account?  

SFDC said you have to sep up separate roles but that's not possilbe in Parnter since roles are automatically assigned based on the account and user level.  

Does anyone have a workaround? 

I'm willing to do custom coding if necessary...please help!
