I suspect that the answer to this is probably quite simple, but I need the directions spelled out in a bit more detail than given in the Help files.
We have created a custom object and custom tab. The tab should contain a number of fields that are Account fields and some that are Contact fields. What I can't figure out is how to make those fields show up as options for the layout of the new custom tab. As I said, I need very detailed directions, as I've spent over 10 hours trying to follow the directions in the Help files and still haven't gotten it to work.

How is the Contact and Account related to the Custom Object? Is there just one Contact/Account linked to the Custom Object. If so, you can use Cross Object Formulas, which I can send you a quick guide for...

The custom tab we're developing is for conferences (the existing conference module is not sufficient for our needs.) For example, Doe Company is the master record, we sell widgets to them. Doe Company is holding a conference about excellence in widget development which would be an excellent speaking opportunity for our CEO. So, we want to enter the name of the conference "Widgetmania" into the custom tab, and then enter "Doe Company" into account and then have the other fields related to Doe Company auto-populate (address, phone, website, activity history, notes...) Basically like cloning Opportunity (which we use to track corporate marketing proposals, thus, cannot retool to use for tracking speaking engagement pitches.) I was able to get "account" to come through, but none of the other fields that are associated with account.
Does that make sense?
