Can I add a field named UNSUBSCRIBE?

Hi

I am new to salesforce.com & wanted to know whether there is a facility to create a field named "unsubscribe" which I can click when a contact indicates to us that they do not wish to receive our monthly mailshot. I am currently doing this manually but need to embed this information into the system so I can pull a "clean" list of contacts that do wish to receive our mailshot.

Does anyone know whether this is possible?

Hi Katharine,

Yes, you can create a new field called "Unsubscribe" and manually check it off when a customer indicates that they no longer wish to receive your monthly mailouts, but essentially, the 'Email Opt Out' field in Salesforce would do the same function for you.  When a customer unsubscribes, you can go to the customer record and check off the 'Email Opt Out' checkbox.  This field exists on both the Lead and the Contact object.

However, if you prefer to create a new field called "Unsubscribe", you can do that as well.  You'll want to make sure that you map this field from the Lead record or to the Contact record when the Lead is converted to make sure the information is not lost.

When pulling a "clean" list for your mailouts, be sure to indicate in your report criteria either 'Email Opt Out (or it is called just 'Opt Out') equals False -OR- 'Unsubscribe' equals False.  This way you won't pull the contacts into your list who have opted out.
