Birthdays by Month Report [ Edited ]

Hi All,

       I am new to Salesforce.com. I'm trying to create a report that outputs birthdays by a particular month. But when selecting the critieria, I'm unable to restrict by month only. (Since the birthdate field on a contact in a MM/DD/YYYY format). Other than creating another field, is there a way to specify a month restriction in the report criteria?

Create a Contact summary report which is grouped by Birthdate and Group Dates By Calendar Month in Year. This option is available when you customize the report and select the grouping - Summarize information by and Group Dates by.
