Pop up Calander Not Showing Year/Date Earlier than 2009

Hello folks, today is my first day with Force.com platform and I have some Date fields which needs to filled with a date like 1970,1980 etc, but the pop up calander is not showing year before 2009. Am I sounding too Idiotic?   Thanks  - Idiot

The Pop-Up Calendar only goes back 1 year, but you can enter any valid MM/DD/YYYY value in a Date field.
