My company, Mailspect, has created an email connector to Salesforce.com to intelligently associate inbound, outbound and internal email with SFDC accounts, contacts, opportunities or anything else. MPP works at the SMTP layer and does the associations without forwarding your email or client software. MPP Web Services has extensive selection criteria so that you only associate good email. Our product can work with Gmail or other hosted email servers in addition or with your in-house email streams.
MPP works at the SMTP level and can work with Journaled email, IMAP, or on email servers or gateways running MTA's like Postfix, Zimbra, CommuniGate, Qmail, Exim and more. There is zero client software to install.
This is an entirely new way to associate email with SFDC using the web services API and can be depolyed on any site. Please visit our site if this sounds interesting, http://mailspect.com
