What is the best way to "graveyard" contact records?

What happens when a contact changes companies?  I would say that we simply update the Account field on the Contact record, leaving a note about the past employer in the Contact Description field.  However some of my users feel that this poses a problem as there is no longer any record of that contact at the former Account record.

For example, John Smith leaves Widget Corp to work for Tchake Labs, there is no longer a record of John Smith’s influence and relationship with us at WidgetCorp.

What is the best way to address this issue?

Thanks

Re: What is the best way to "graveyard" contact records?

For this particular scenario, affliations and relationships can be useful.

Affiliations define how Contact C is associated with multiple Accounts A1, A2, A3

Relationships define how Contact C is related to your company in different ways... as a customer, partner, etc.

This is available as part of the non profit starter pack...

If you find that useful, it should be easy to replicate this  in your org as well with custom objects....

Hope this helps...
