Tracking Customized Training of Users

I am currently training several departments on different SF procedures.  I would like to keep track of the users, the training and the date training was received.  I currently am doing this with an Excel spreadsheet and thought that it would be great to have it in SF.  Wondered if anyone has created a custom object or other means of tracking User training.  Another idea I had was to customize the User page by adding a Training Section.

Re: Tracking Customized Training of Users

I could not find a solution between a Custom Object and Fields because neither fit my business needs. A custom object can not have a master detail relationship with a user record therefore you need to associate with another object then do a look-up to the user not great for viewing the data and is clunky. The second option you have noted was adding fields to the User record again not very dynamic but can work if outlined properly. I ended up doing something a little different where I created "Employee" contact records and built a training module from the contact record this allowed me to do a one to many relationship and build a dynamic tab/view.

I would recommend adding to idea exchange the User object is a little "flat".:smileymad:

Re: Tracking Customized Training of Users

I appreciate your response.  It saved me from trying to do something that would not work.  I am surprised that other organizations would not find this functionality useful.
To have a setup similar to the on-line training and results shown in the "Training History" of "Manage Users" would be useful.  I understand how you set up and may end up doing that.  Alternatively, may stick to the excel spreadsheet for now and put the idea down on "Ideas".

I agree 100% why not allow adding records to the training section in Salesforce.com and I do think  many organizations would find this useful. I think it would be wonderful to see if training impacts adoption, etc.
