Recommendations before implementing Similar Opportunities

I'm in the process of reviewing the Similar Opportunities functionality as our sales team would like to use it.  I would love to hear others feedback about it.  So, please share the good, the bad and the ugly!

My one reservation right now is the warning about the visibility that occurs regardlesss of sharing rules and profile permissions.  We have a partner portal in place and they use opportunities. Does this mean they will be able to view inside sales opps if I enable similar opps?

Did you ever go through with implementing this? We're considering doing so at our company, and I'm noticing posts on this feature are VERY scarce. I'd really like to find out if other companies find this feature to be worthwhile, and how they are leveraging it to get the most value. If anyone could post a few quick sentences I'd appreciate it.

Hi Brian,

No, we have not yet implemented similar opps in our org. I have a concern about the important note in the help text that warns:

"Enabling similar opportunities gives all users in your organization limited visibility into private opportunities, regardless of sharing rules and profile permissions. Once enabled, users will see information for any opportunity that matches fields you choose to display in the Similar Opportunities related list."

We have partners who see a limited amount of data, but specifically work in opportunities. I have not been able to confirm if enabling similar opps will give them more visibility than I would like.  

I'm with you, I would like to hear from anyone who has enabled this functionality and the pros and cons of doing so.
