Hi all,
This is a rookie question.
How can someone merge a new lead with an existing contact?
Just as a best practice how do you proceed when you have a new campaign in SFDC.
Do you treat existing contacts and new leads that are interested in that campaign differently?
If yes how? and how does that reflects in your funnel reporting?

Hi Nadine,
Yes you can merge a Lead with both an existing Account and/or Contact when it is converted.
Campaigns are kind of a unique animal in SFDC in that they can have both Leads and Contacts associated with them. Here we've run several Campaigns that have included both, and they're pretty much treated the same within the Campaign.
The only real difference is that if the Lead ends up getting converted the Campign might be considered the "Lead Source" in some instances. Whereas the Contact would just have the Campaign added to it's Campaign History, and the Campaign might be sighted as the "Primary Campaign" if an Opportunity grows out of it.

Here's a good follow on question to this re lead management.
I have a whole wack of lead's in the system that have existing accounts/contacts but I don't know which leads are new vs existing contact leads.
I'd like to archive the leads without existing accounts and convert/merge the remaining ones as they carry campaign information I don't want to lose. I can do this indiviually but would rather perform the operation enmass.
any thoughs on how to do this?
