This may be very obvious to everyone but me so I thought I would ask anyways.
We are a software company and I am trying to trigger an email notification to our support team whenever a specific opportunity stage is chosen.
i.e. when opportunity stage is "Evaluation on Hold - Technical Issue", I would like an email to go to support notifiying them that this has occurred (much like a Big Deal Alert).
Any help would be appreciated!
Jim

I can help you with this.
First you need to create the Email template that you would like sent once the stage is created.
Go to your setup, and go to Communication Templates in the Administrator Setup section to the bottom right sideof the screen.
Go to Email Templates... most of the time a Text template works well for this. You can use the mail merge fiels to enter things like:
This email is to notify you that {Opportunity} has changed to a {Status} stage. Blah blah blah....
Save this template....
Then go to Customize in the setup section and go to Workflow Rules.
Create a new Workflow rule that say
Opportunity Stage equals "blah" [where blah is whatever you want to trigger the rule"
I'd probably mark the checkbox "whenver a rule is created or did not previously meet criteria" something like that...
Then save the rule... it's going to ask you for a Workflow action. Select New Email and select the template you created at the begining of these instructions....
Hope that helps!

Thanks so much for the guidance. I followed your instructions but it doesn't send me an email (the workflow action I set). I assumed that if I went to an existing opportunity and set the stage to the criteria I set (Stage equals Evaluation on Hold - Technical Issue) and save the opportunity that I would immediately be sent an email based on the template I set up. Any additional thoughts?
Jim

Jim,
Who did you put as the recipient? When you went and clicked New Email it should have prompted to you or there should be a field that asks who should be on the recieving end of the email once the criteria is met. Also check the Workflow rule and verify that it's Active. There should be a link next to it in the Workflow rule view that says Edit and one right next to it that says Activate or Deactivate.... if it says Activate... click it and this should make the rue active.
