Customizable Forecasting

Our organization has two components for recording revenue - booking value (Amount field in opportunity) and revenue (4 custom fields in our opportunity page to record current year quarterly revenues and carry forward revenue).

Is it possible to customize our forecasting to pick up the revenue from the quarterly revenue fields that are custom rather than the standard Amount field?

Has anyone tried similar variations of customizable forecasting where the revenue is obtained from custom fields as opposed to the standard Amount field?
