Changing the field in an Account lookup field

I am trying to see if there is a way to change the fields in a account lookup field. when you click the new button the view shows me the billing address field. i need to change that field to custom fields. Any Ideas?

If you have system admin privileges, you can go to setup>app setup>accounts>search layouts. Once there, select "lookup dialogues">edit and you'll see a double box that allows you to select what you want displayed (i.e. you can change billing address to other field choices). Hope this helps.

Hi. I tried to add TYPE to thisl list but could not (for the life of me) find which page this was!! i know it's after i click on the NEW button but i just can't find it. Help!!

Do you mean that you've followed these steps: 

 

setup

app setup

accounts

search layouts

<edit> account lookup dialogues

 

and found your field named "type" and selected and moved it over from the left box to the right box, and hit save, and when you go to check your work, "type" doesn't show up in the account search layout?

Jen - let me clarify. When i click on the Account Lookup icon, I get the above mentioned pop-up. I need to have the TYPE filed in that pop-up (after clicking on the NEW button). The display of TYPE for search results does show me TYPE based on the sequence of steps you mentioned so that's good. It's whne i want to add a NEW account...i'd like to have TYPE there.

Okay, I know what your talking about, and Salesforce currently has no way of changing those field when creating a new account from that pop-up. I know I was pretty annoyed at that myself. The only thing we can do is put that up on the Idea forum and have everyone vote on it to give us the ability to change those input field to custom fields.

That is the Account "Quick Create" Pop-Up, as far as I know it cannot be customized, unless maybe you can do something in VisualForce (but the only thing that I know about Visualforce is that I don't know a thing about Visualforce).  

 

Personally I would disable the Quick Create feature.  "Quick Created" records bypass required fields and validation rules, and it causes more headaches and data quality problems than it is worth.
